Your last words seem to say it all, you 'care about
him'. You already sense that you and he are destined for different
paths in life. Perhaps he senses it too. Perhaps he feels you will go
further in life than he will and perhaps he resents that.
You say you got nothing
from him on Valentine's Day. Did you give him anything? This does not
sound like a loving relationship and it seems that you realise this.
You say that you do not
want him to hold you back. So do not let him. It would seem that it is
time for you to let go. You can still care about him but maybe you
cannot love each other.
So maybe you are growing
apart rather than attracting each other as you once did. In which case
it is time for you both to move on.
