Relationship Quiz
How can I improve
my relationship?
Each month, we get a handful of emails asking us the
same thing - "how can I improve my relationship?"
Now that is not any easy question to answer, especially
as there seem to be so many different types of relationship. Equally,
so many people seem to want so many different things from a relationship.
It is hard to know where to start.
So let us start at the fundamentals. We believe that
a good, healthy and long-lasting relationship is built upon two principles; Communication and
Commitment.
So let's ask ourselves the first question. When did you
last talk with your partner?
Now we do not mean daily chit-chat, we mean when did
you last communicate with your partner? Can you remember the last thing
your partner said to you? Communication is about listening as well as
talking. Communication is about sharing. It's about sharing your feelings,
your views, your desires, your wishes for the future. It's also about
sharing your fears and your worries.
If you do not communicate these things with your partner,
how can your partner help you to achieve them? If your partner does not
communicate these things with you, how can you help your partner to
achieve
them ? By sharing these things with each other, you start to build a stronger
relationship.
Now let's try the second question. Are you truly committed
to this relationship?
Be honest with yourself here. A healthy long-lasting
relationship cannot be created unless both partners are committed to making
it that way. If you feel you are just in this relationship until something,
or someone, better turns up, then the relationship is surely destined
to fail.
So there, we have given you the two principles of a healthy
and long-lasting relationship. At least, that's how we see it. Hopefully
we have given you some 'food for thought' , as they say.
